WNBL Update:
New Signing – Lilly Rotunno:
Geelong Venom is excited to announce its newest signing for the upcoming WNBL season, Lilly Rotunno.
Formerly a development player for the Melbourne Boomers under Venom head coach Chris Lucas, Rotunno is currently playing for Geelong United’s NBL1 side which has just completed a perfect 22-0 season and won through its qualifyin final on Saturday night.
“The win on the weekend was just a reflection of all the hard work we’ve been putting in all season,”said Rotunno.
“It was a tough game and a real grind but we showed up and gave it everything on both ends of the floor. Most importantly we genuinely enjoy playing together and have so much fun doing it which showed on the weekend.”

NBL1 Update:
Women’s streak continues to 23 in a row with a prelim on the horizon:

Your Plan Group Geelong United women’s squad remain undefeated after week one of NBL1 South Finals action, beating Keilor Thunder for the second time in 2 weeks in Saturday’s qualifying final.
Gemma Potter was outstanding for the home side, scoring 23 points and adding nine rebounds – One short of a double double. Support came through five of her teammates all in double digits – Lilly Rotunno (10), Jaz Shelley (12), Dakota Crichton (10), Hannah Hank (13) and Taylor Mole (10) all doing their part in securing the 15 point win.
Next home game:
A week’s break is now on the cards as the team readies themselves for a prelim final against the winner of semi final 2, which will be contested between Dandenong and Diamond Valley.

Big V Youth League Update:

Big V finals time kicks off this weekend, with your Navexa Geelong United YL1 women hitting the court against Eltham this Saturday afternoon.
Make sure you come along to cheer on Geelong’s stars of the future, in what is sure to be a thrilling contest.

Pathways Awards Night:

Geelong United Basketball’s yearly Pathways Awards Night is in the books, with 12 awards presented as we celebrated our NBL1 and BigV Youth League teams.

VJBL United Teams of the Week:

Following the school holidays, VJBL action hit the court once again last Friday night.
Our VJBL United Teams of the Week are U12 Boys 2 who defeated Keilor 61-28, U16 Girls Morrissy who defeated Hawthorn 48-43, and U18 Boys 7 who had a hard fought draw against Sherbrooke.
VJBL Tryouts:
Our VJBL Tryouts are fast approaching!
Save the date for our October tryouts, and you could soon be donning a GUB jersey for the 2025/26 season!
For boys who have not played VJBL before and wish to try out for our U14, U16 and U18 squads, the first pre-screening tryout will be happening on September 14. If successful at this tryout, you will be invited to the following October tryouts.

Our Next Step Program is designed for Community basketball players looking to up-skill, develop their game, and learn from Geelong United’s VJBL coaches!

Practice Like a Pro is a 6-week high-intensity skill development program built to mirror how professional players train.
Each week, players will step into a purposefully designed session that follows the same structure, standards, and flow as a pro-level workout — focused on efficiency, detail, and game-ready execution.

Do you want to be a star of the future?
The Future United Stars program is a skill development program that will teach players how to be able to play competitively.
This program will be coordinated by GUB’s Coach & Athlete Development Manager, Simon Nicholson and coached by GUB’s U12 VJBL Coaches.

Geelong United Basketball has teamed up with Freedom Sports to bring you its latest program, Momentum Hoops.
This skill-development initiative is for junior wheelchair basketball players aged 8+. Enjoy an inclusive program focusing on building basketball skills, confidence, and teamwork, while empowering young athletes to reach their full potential in a supportive and fun environment.

Geelong United is excited to launch the new Play Her Way Program – a girls-only skill development initiative for junior players aged 12+.
Designed to enhance fundamental skills, this program caters to all levels, from beginners to experienced players.

Geelong United Basketball’s Step Above Skills Sessions are all about stepping up your game and learning the skills that will help you get ahead of the pack.
These sessions are for VJBL athletes and others wanting to improves their skills by attending one or both sessions. Hosted by special guest Geelong United NBL1 players (Lilly Rotunno, Kaelen Malone, Hannah Hank & Tristan Forsyth), each session will be focused on specific skills based development that will help all athletes better their game.
