GUB Champs League Game of the Week Wrap: YMCA vs SG Kings

YMCA pulled off a gutsy 89-82 win over SG Kings in a fiery GUB Champs League clash.

After star player Bailey Bruce was ejected early in the first quarter for rough conduct, the pressure was on—but YMCA’s depth rose to the occasion. Kuol Reech led the charge with 30 points, while Jack Terrill added 24 in a powerful response. With six of eight players hitting the scoreboard, it was a true team effort that sealed the win.

SG Kings fought hard to the final buzzer, led by Luka Gerber’s game-high 37 points in a standout individual performance. Jackson Cone chipped in with 16, but the Kings couldn’t match YMCA’s balanced attack and hustle plays down the stretch.

The win moves YMCA into 2nd place on the ladder, now a game clear of the CC Eagles in third. SG Kings drop to 5th but remain in the hunt for a top-tier finals spot.

GUB Champs League Game of the Week Wrap: Try Boys vs Pivot City

Try Boys secured their third win of the season in a nail-biting 66-64 victory over Pivot City.

It was a true team effort, with four players scoring in double digits and six of eight hitting the scoreboard. Olivia Virt led the way with 18 points, while rising junior star Jade Chow added 14 and Jacinta Maloney chipped in with 13, showcasing the squad’s growing chemistry and resilience.

Pivot City, playing without a bench, showed incredible fight. Geelong United Big V Youth League talents Mackenzie Drew and Matilda Sewell were outstanding, each scoring 25 points and keeping their side in the contest until the final buzzer. However, the lack of depth ultimately proved costly as Try Boys edged ahead in the closing stages.

Despite still sitting at the bottom of the ladder, Try Boys now have momentum and a chance to make a late-season push with four games remaining. Pivot City, now in 4th place, will need to bounce back quickly to keep their finals hopes alive.
