Our Navexa VJBL (Victorian Junior Basketball League) is the next step in the development for those who are looking to advance their basketball skills beyond our community competitions. Consisting of over 50 teams, this competition is run by Basketball Victoria and sees teams compete against other clubs from metropolitan and regional Victoria.

Are you ready to take the next step in your basketball journey?

We’re inviting new players who have not previously played VJBL to attend our New Player Try Outs ahead of the official October VJBL selections.

This session is compulsory for eligible players wanting to be considered for upcoming VJBL Try Outs.

Who is this for?
Players who have never played VJBL before in the following age groups:

U14 Boys (Born 2014–2015)
U16 Boys (Born 2012–2013)
U18 Boys (Born 2010–2011)

Try Out Details Date: Sunday 6th September

Location: Beyond Bank Stadium Session

Times:

U14 Boys: 12:00pm – 1:30pm
U16 Boys: 2:30pm – 4:00pm
U18 Boys: 5:00pm – 6:30pm

Attendance is required to be considered for October VJBL Try Outs Designed to identify and invite new talent into the VJBL pathway.

  • Age Groups (determined by year of birth): U12’s (YOB 2016-2019), U14’s (YOB 2014-2015), U16’s (YOB 2012-2013), U18’s (YOB 2010-2011)
  • Trial process: All new players who haven’t played in the above listed age groups need to attend New player try outs. All other players will be required to attend VJBL try outs to be selected in a team dates as advised.
  • Venues and Travel Expectations: VJBL is played at venues across the state of Victoria on Friday Evenings. All players and coaches will be expected to travel to these venues throughout the season

FAQ’s

  • Do I need to get a Permission to Train Form? If you have played for another VJBL club, and have not played for Geelong United Basketball, you will need to obtain a Permission to Train Form.
  • How do I get a Permission to Train Form if I need one? The application for Permission to Train Forms opens on 21st September. You can find this form here: Competition Resources – VJBL
  • Does every player who tries out for VJBL get a spot? Not always- depending on trial list numbers and team numbers, people may miss out.
  • Do I need to register before attending try outs? Yes. All players must be registered online before attending try outs.
  • What should I bring to try outs?
    · Basketball
    · Drink Bottle
    · Reversible Singlet (if you have one otherwise a light shirt and a dark shirt)
    · Appropriate basketball shorts
    · Any required Permission to Train Form
  • What if I can’t attend one of my allocated Try Out Sessions? Please notify the club as soon as possible. While attending every session is strongly encouraged, the club understands that exceptional circumstances may arise.
  • Should I try out if I haven’t played basketball before? No, we recommend players have played a season of community competition basketball before trying out for a VJBL team.
  • How many teams will there be? This is to be confirmed and dependent on try out numbers and team entry requirements from VJBL.
  • When do teams train? Teams train weekly on Sundays. Each team is allocated a time by the club.
  • Do I need to attend try outs to be selected? To have the best opportunity at making a VJBL team, we recommend that players attend try outs.
  • Do teams have to play in tournaments? Yes, all GUB VJBL teams are required to play at the Koorr Koorr Ngtiji: Geelong Annual Tournament on the 30th October- November 1st. All Legacy Teams are required to play at their age group’s Junior Country Championships tournaments. All other tournaments are entered at the discretion of the team.
