TAC PARTNERS WITH GUB’S KOORR KOORR NGITJI TOURNAMENT

Geelong United Basketball (GUB) is proud to announce it is partnering with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) ahead of this year’s Koorr Koorr Ngitji Tournament, taking place in Geelong this November.

Named by the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, the Koorr Koorr Ngitji Tournament embodies the spirit of “Coming Together” – bringing the basketball community from across Victoria together to celebrate sport, team- work, and community connection.

This unique tournament offers a welcoming space that promotes positive pathways through basketball for people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. At its heart, it is a celebration of inclusion, teamwork, and com- munity pride.

“We’re proud to be part of an event in our own community that uses the strength of sport to unite people and promote shared responsibility,” said TAC CEO Tracey Slatter. “Koorr Koorr Ngitji is a perfect platform for sup- porting young people, celebrating culture, and encouraging safer travel behaviours as teams and families jour- ney across the state to connect through basketball.”

“Every year, basketball families spend countless hours on Victorian roads to get to games and tournaments. We hope this partnership can empower every one of them to be leaders and ambassadors for road safety.”

Through this partnership, TAC will deliver a series of activations throughout the event designed to engage play- ers, families, and fans with key road safety messages, particularly focused on youth engagement and safe travel to and from sporting events.

“Koorr Koorr Ngitji is more than a tournament – it’s a statement of unity,” GUB CEO Mark Neeld said.

“We’re grateful to the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative for shaping this event’s identity, and to TAC for sup- porting us in bringing its purpose to life. Together, we’re using sport to grow connection, opportunity, and lead- ership.”

GUB’s General Manager of Partnerships Connie Bolger added, “This partnership brings the vision of Koorr Koorr Ngitji to life. It reflects our shared commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and creating meaningful pathways through sport. With TAC’s support, we’re proud to deliver a tournament that is as impactful off the court as it is on it.”

Open to players of all skill levels, the tournament’s focus on participation, youth development and gender equity aligns with TAC’s commitment to keeping communities safe, active and connected while building a lasting legacy for the Geelong region and beyond.
