GUB Champs League Wrap – Round 10

GUB Champs League Men’s Game of the Week Wrap: CC Eagles vs. SG Kings

The CC Eagles strengthened their position near the top of the GUB Champs League ladder with a commanding 85–70 win over the SG Kings in this week’s Game of the Week. A strong second half surge and dominant play inside saw the Eagles pull away late to secure their eighth win of the season.

Centre Liam McInerney was unstoppable in the paint, finishing with a game-high 27 points and controlling both ends of the floor. He was well supported by rising star and Geelong United Youth League Men’s representative Keegan Johnson, who added 22 points with his trademark energy and finishing touch.

The SG Kings battled hard, led by Riley Pendergast’s 21-point effort, with Luka Gerber (17 points) and Riley Lay (13 points) chipping in. However, they struggled to slow the Eagles’ balanced attack and fell behind in the final quarter.

The win sees the Eagles climb to second on the ladder at 8–2, firmly in the title hunt. The Kings, now sitting 6th at 5–5, will be looking to regroup as the finals race intensifies.

GUB Champs League Women’s Game of the Week Wrap: Try Boys vs. Pivot City

Try Boys have made it two wins in a row, backing up last week’s breakthrough with a strong 63–51 victory over Pivot City in this week’s GUB Champs League Game of the Week. After a slow start to the season, Try Boys are finally finding their rhythm and building momentum at the right time.

Olivia Virt was unstoppable for the winners, lighting up the scoreboard with 30 points in a dominant all-round performance. She was well supported by Quinn Murphy (11 points) and Alivia Osborne (10 points), with the trio proving too much for Pivot to handle on both ends of the court.

Pivot City were led by Vanessa Marsh (18 points) and Matilda Sewell (15 points), who worked hard to keep their side in the contest, but a lack of scoring depth ultimately cost them as Try Boys pulled away late.

Despite still sitting at the bottom of the ladder, Try Boys’ back-to-back wins signal a team on the rise. Pivot City, just ahead in 4th on percentage, will be looking to bounce back quickly to stay in finals contention.

Other Results: Sharks def. YMCA 82-52, Wildcats had the bye.
