RL Signs Geelong United Basketball Menโ€™s Winter Championship | Grand Final Wrap

A final-quarter burst sparked by a trio of young tyros has proven the difference as the undefeated Pivot City claimed the RL Signs Geelong United Men’s Winter Championship with an 84-64 win over Christian College Eagles at Geelong Arena on Tuesday night.

Grand final MVP Marach Marach, competition-leading scorer Max Kos, and forward Max Zalakos combined for Pivot’s 27 final-quarter points as they turned a three-point three-quarter time lead into a 14-point victory.

After a slow start, where they trailed by eight points at quarter-time, Pivot found their groove in the second quarter, with Marach finishing with 29 points for the game, contributing 11 in the period.

In the third quarter, with the game in the balance, Kos scored 11 of his 27 points.

Zalakos finished with 16 points.

Pivot coach Tim O’Leary also praised the defensive effort of Pat Goodier, who battled hard against Jamieson Hultgren and Liam McInernery.

Hultgren was a constant inside threat for the Eagles as he finished with 22 points, with fellow big McInerney contributing 17.

Marc Goodwin was also busy with 13 points.
