RL Signs Geelong United Basketball Women’s Winter Championship | Grand Final Wrap

Wildcats have produced a dominant four-quarter performance to win the RL Signs Geelong United Basketball Women’s Winter Championship at Geelong Arena on Tuesday night.

The Glenn Sharp-coached ‘Cats, who won knockout finals against YMCA and Sharks to book a grand final berth, were never seriously threatened in beating an understrength Pivot City, 100-53

Geelong United NBL1 co-captain Sarah Elsworthy set the tone for Wildcats with nine points in the opening quarter as they opened up a 20-10 lead.

However, the 15-point burst by Jasmine King in the third quarter was the highlight of the contest.

The 15-year-old finished the night with 29 points and MVP honours.

Elsworthy sat most of the second half on the bench and was next best for the ‘Cats with 18.

Ash Rozenfeld (14 points), Ella Wolfenden (12) and Piper Copeland (11) also scored in double figures.

Pivot, which went into the contest without Eve Braslis (Iceland) and Ella Tofaeono (Townsville), struggled to score consistently.

Paris Kevric was best for Pivot with 14 points, Vanessa Marsh contributed 13 and Miley Dawkins 12.
