In the lead up to every BigV home game of the 2026 season, we’ll be checking in with the coaches to see how everything is shaping up for the game.
How are we expected to perform? Who should we be looking out for to fill the stat sheet? What are the keys to a big win?
It’s all answered here with the Coaches Weekend Rundown!
BigV VYC Men: Head Coach, Luke Beard
What were your takeaways from your previous game, and who were your standout performers?
Key take was to continue to focus on our ability to lock in for 40 minutes of basketball. We were able to get key minutes into all 12 players, displaying the depth we have.
How has the teams preparation been in the lead up to the game?
It has been good, with a strong focus on our structures and defensive end of the court.
What are some of the key matchups for the game?
Dandenong’s guards are very good, we will be looking to stop them early and challenge them to play through different players. On Sunday with Packenham, it will be about ensuring we make all shots contested and then secure the ball.
What are some other key areas you’ll be looking to control in the game?
We want to control the rhythm of games, push the pace when it suits, slow down and get through sets when it suits, the team are improving with this every game.
What’s your final message for the fans?
Being back at home Saturday and a curtain raiser to NBL1, we’re excited to have a home town crowd behind us again. Make sure you get there early to catch all three great games!
Geelong United’s VYC Men’s squad take Dandenong tomorrow from 3pm at the Geelong Arena.
