BigV VYC Coaches Weekend Rundown – Saturday July 11

In the lead up to every BigV home game of the 2026 season, we’ll be checking in with the coaches to see how everything is shaping up for the game.

How are we expected to perform? Who should we be looking out for to fill the stat sheet? What are the keys to a big win?

It’s all answered here with the Coaches Weekend Rundown!

BigV VYC Women: Head Coach, Simon Nicholson

What were your takeaways from your previous game, and who were your standout performers?

It was a tough round for us having the NBL1 clash, so player availability definitely played into the result. Elle Price was again a standout with her 21 points, and to shoot at 45% under that much pressure was a real positive.

How has the teams preparation been in the lead up to the game?

With two games to come, we know these are winnable games for us, so that has been the focus in our preparation – Making sure we’re ready to take on both challenges and get things going in our favour right from the start.

What are some of the key matchups for the game?

Much like us, Pakenham have recently been forced to put big minutes into their starters. With more players back in our available rotation this week we’ll be looking to keep bodies fresh and take advantage of those extra players we have.

What are some other key areas you’ll be looking to control in the game?

Momentum – With both games being very winnable contest for us, we need to keep momentum on our side and not give our opposition a chance to sneak away with the win.

What’s your final message for the fans?

We’ve got two more games to come for the year, so it’s your last chance for the year to see what our future stars can do – Support has been great for the season and we can’t wait to see our supporters back in the stands for what should be two great games this weekend.

BigV VYC Men: Head Coach, Luke Beard

What were your takeaways from your previous game, and who were your standout performers?

The depth of talent in our program is elite. Being able to cover the absence of key pieces and play consistent disciplined basketball across the weekend was really satisfying.

How has the teams preparation been in the lead up to the game?

Last training of the regular season saw good numbers and energy, we know what we need to do this weekend and the players are all locked in.

What are some of the key matchups for the game?

Pakenham are quick with good outside shooters. We will be looking to take their transition game away from them as much as possible.

What are some other key areas you’ll be looking to control in the game?

We’ll be looking to continue to progress our defensive consistency and look after the rock.

What’s your final message for the fans?

Last home game of the regular season and it is a quadruple header – If you love basketball where else would you rather be?!
