VJBL Weekly Wrap – 12/6/26
Each week we’ll be selecting VJBL teams to be a part of our weekly wrap!
With round 10 of the 2026 season now in the books, check out all the latest from each of this week’s selected teams below:
U14 Boys 4: W 67-36
Coming off a Ballarat tournament full of lessons, we continued our VJBL journey at home against the undefeated, top of the ladder side Melton.
The message pregame was about our path forward and leaving past results in the past. The boys warmed up well and seemed ready for the challenge of taking on a team that had previously defeated us by 24 points in round 2.
To say I expected what happened over the next 40 minutes would be a lie. To say I believed this squad was capable of what they achieved in those 40 minutes, that would be the truth.
Put simply, an outstanding effort at both ends of the floor by all of the boys involved.
The proof – we kept a team that averages 56.5 ppg to 36, had 19 offensive rebounds, 18 defensive rebounds, 18 assists on 24 made shots and added 14 steals. Everyone contributed on the night, it was great to see the boys get rewarded for their efforts.
Some individual stat lines that stood out from the game – Jaxon Whitten 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block. Logan Kirwan added 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal. William Bogemann also had 11 points (finishing 7 of 10 from the foul line) 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Gregory Ang provided 7 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal and Joshua Staff had 6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Sebastian Fuller, Micah Barrie, Jarvis Wharton and Spencer Pearson each scored and contributed to our best team performance so far.
A new benchmark has been set, the belief is there, the path forward is clear. Bring on our next contest against Wangaratta.
U18 Boys 4: L 46-50
A good hit-out against Geelong United U18.2 in a tight 46-50 loss. Despite the result, there were plenty of positives, including efficient moments offensively, strong rim protection, and reliable free-throw shooting that kept the group right in the contest.
The difference came in the extra possessions, with Geelong U18.2 much stronger on the glass, particularly on the offensive boards, while turnovers and a tough night from three made it harder to build momentum. Cleaning up the box-outs, valuing the ball, and creating a few more clean looks will give us every chance to flip a close result like this next time.
