BigV VYC Coaches Weekend Rundown – Saturday June 13
In the lead up to every BigV home game of the 2026 season, we’ll be checking in with the coaches to see how everything is shaping up for the game.
How are we expected to perform? Who should we be looking out for to fill the stat sheet? What are the keys to a big win?
It’s all answered here with the Coaches Weekend Rundown!
BigV VYC Women: Head Coach, Simon Nicholson
What were your takeaways from your previous game, and who were your standout performers?
The group did a great job last weekend of junking it up defensively and taking some risks on that end of the floor, which led to us getting an early lead. Elle Price was elite last weekend across our 2 games, averaging 23 points and 12 rebounds.
How has the teams preparation been in the lead up to the game?
The team has unfortunately been plagued by injuries, with a few key pieces to remain on the shelf for the indefinite future. We’re working through that as best we can, giving others bigger roles than they expected for the season – It’s been a great learning experience for them all.
What are some of the key matchups for the game?
Limiting the impact of Knox’s Erica Cid, especially from 3 will be key for us to help control the game.
What are some other key areas you’ll be looking to control in the game?
Knox like to press and zone, so being able to value the ball and play and pass in the gaps will help us create easy scoring chances. They’re also a Heavy Pick and Roll team, so limiting their ability to get feet in paint will be massive.
What’s your final message for the fans?
It’s been great to see the growth of our younger players as they get more and more opportunities. The support for our next players coming through our VJBL program into BigV has been fantastic.
BigV VYC Men: Head Coach, Luke Beard
What were your takeaways from your previous game, and who were your standout performers?
We’re coming off back to back losses, but spirits are high amongst the group. After the long weekend, the team are refreshed and ready to hit a home/road double header.
How has the teams preparation been in the lead up to the game?
The team have come together and really focused in on our key areas of development. Now we’re excited to put into play.
What are some of the key matchups for the game?
Against Knox it will be the bigs – Mazur v. Wickham and who can win the rebound count. Against Hume it will be our ability to negate their pace and ball movement.
What are some other key areas you’ll be looking to control in the game?
As above, rebounds and tempo will be key to our success.
What’s your final message for the fans?
We’re playing a home game at the brand-new Sacred Heart College stadium, come down and check it out and support the team!
