GUB Champs League: Grand Finals

GUB Champs League Women’s Grand Final Wrap – Sharks vs Wildcats

The Sharks capped off a flawless season with a commanding 81-64 victory over the Wildcats in the GUB Champs League Women’s Grand Final. Despite the Wildcats earning a second shot at the undefeated Sharks after falling to them in week one of finals, they were once again unable to halt the reigning powerhouse.

Georgia Varley was unstoppable, delivering a scintillating 35-point performance that firmly stamped her MVP credentials. Supported by Ebony Rolph (13), Neve Terpstra (11), and Cortney Hollowood (10), the Sharks controlled the tempo and never let the game slip from their grasp.

The Wildcats showed heart and flashes of brilliance, with Chantelle Hall leading the way with 20 points. Jaimee Crombie added 18, and Brunswick Sharp chipped in 11, including three triples, but the Sharks’ defensive pressure and offensive execution proved too much.

With the win, the Sharks complete a perfect campaign, showcasing dominance, depth, and composure throughout the season. For the Wildcats, it’s a tough end to a spirited finals run, but they’ll take pride in pushing the league’s best. The Sharks, meanwhile, celebrate a well-earned championship and a season to remember.

GUB Champs League Men’s Grand Final Wrap – Pivot City vs CC Eagles

In a stunning Grand Final upset, the undefeated Pivot City fell short at the final hurdle, going down 92-73 to a relentless CC Eagles outfit. The Eagles brought intensity from the opening tip, setting the tone with suffocating defence and balanced scoring across the board.

Star centre Liam McInerney was unstoppable, dominating the paint and finishing with a game-high 27 points. He was well-supported by Marc Allan-Goodwin (22), Malik McKinney (15), and Keegan Johnson (10), as the Eagles executed their game plan to perfection.

Pivot City, who had cruised through the season unbeaten, struggled to find rhythm against the Eagles’ pressure. Geelong United NBL1 standout Ethan Blythe led the charge with 17 points, while his brother Cohen Blythe and fellow NBL1 talent Marach Marach chipped in 15 apiece. Despite their efforts, the Eagles’ defensive wall and offensive efficiency proved too much.

The win marks a crowning achievement for the CC Eagles, who peaked at the right time and dethroned the league’s top team with authority. For Pivot City, it’s a tough end to an otherwise stellar campaign, while the Eagles celebrate a well-earned championship triumph.
