GUB Champs League Wrap – Round 9

GUB Champs League Men’s Game of the Week Wrap: Sharks vs. Surfcoasters

The Surfcoasters claimed a statement 102–95 victory over the Sharks in this week’s GUB Champs League Game of the Week, showcasing their firepower in one of their best performances of the season. The win marks their second of the campaign and could serve as a crucial turning point as they look to build momentum.

Geelong United Big V Youth League duo Ethan Nicholls and William Macpherson were electric for the Surfcoasters, scoring 32 and 30 points respectively in a dominant offensive display. Their ability to push the pace and finish consistently gave the Sharks headaches all night.

Despite the loss, the Sharks had strong performances of their own, with Ayden Kenshole and Malik Davis both putting up 28 points. The pair kept the game within reach and battled right to the final buzzer, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Surfcoasters’ offensive onslaught.

With the win, the Surfcoasters move to 2–7 on the season and sit in 8th place. While still outside finals contention, this result could spark a late-season surge for the spirited squad.

GUB Champs League Women’s Game of the Week Wrap: Trty Boys vs. YMCA

Try Boys broke through for their first win of the season in emphatic fashion, taking down YMCA 71–60 in this week’s GUB Champs League Game of the Week. It was a much-needed result for a hardworking group who finally saw their efforts rewarded on the scoreboard.

Jade Chow delivered one of the standout performances of the season, putting the team on her back with a massive 42-point effort. Her relentless scoring drive proved too much for YMCA to contain, with the remainder of the Try Boys squad chipping in valuable support, though all in single digits.

Despite the loss, YMCA had bright sparks of their own, with Harmony Parker and Aleks Connolly both producing strong performances and finishing with 21 points apiece. The duo kept their side in the contest for much of the game, but the inability to slow down Chow ultimately proved costly.

With the win, Try Boys now gain some much-needed momentum heading into the back half of the season, while YMCA will look to bounce back quickly and stay in the finals hunt.

Other Results: Sharks def. Wildcats 74-63, Pivot City had the bye.
