GUB Champs League Men’s Game of the Week Wrap: Wildcats vs. Surfcoasters

The Wildcats edged out the Surfcoasters 89–84 in a high-scoring, back-and-forth battle in this week’s GUB Champs League Game of the Week.

Both teams showcased their offensive firepower, but it was the Wildcats who executed better down the stretch to claim their second win of the season.

Kerry Richardson was in sensational form for the Wildcats, pouring in 31 points to lead his side with poise and confidence. He was ably supported by Geelong United Youth League representative William Ilsley, who added 28 points in a dynamic display of scoring and hustle.

The Surfcoasters had their own Youth League stars shining, with William Macpherson dominating offensively and posting a game-high 35 points. Ethan Nicholls (16 points) and Evan Juros (13 points) also made strong contributions, keeping the game within reach until the final buzzer.

The win lifts the Wildcats to 8th on the ladder as they look to build momentum through the middle of the season. Surfcoasters, now sitting 9th, continue to battle hard but remain with just one win so far this season.

GUB Champs League Women’s Game of the Week Wrap: Wildcats vs. Try Boys

The Wildcats claimed a gritty 50–43 win over Try Boys in this week’s GUB Champs League Game of the Week, strengthening their hold on second place with a 6–1 record.

In a defensively focused contest, it was the Wildcats’ balanced scoring and discipline that made the difference.

Chantelle Hall led the way for the Wildcats with 15 points, providing a steady offensive presence throughout the game. Antoniette Emma-Nnopu added 11 points, while the rest of the squad contributed across the board in a well-rounded team performance that wore down the opposition.

Try Boys were once again led by the ever-reliable Olivia Virt, who shouldered the scoring load with 26 points in another standout effort. However, usual high-scorer Jade Chow was kept unusually quiet, held to just 9 points by the Wildcats’ tight defensive coverage.

The win solidifies the Wildcats’ place near the top of the ladder, while Try Boys remain winless despite continued strong individual performances. They’ll be looking to regroup and break through for that elusive first victory in the coming rounds.
