GUB Community Competition Awards

The 2023 Geelong United Basketball Community Competition Awards, including the Geelong United Basketball Club of the Year, were announced Thursday night at the GUB Presentation Night.

Congratulations to our Club of the Year and our MVP recipients from our RL Signs Women’s and Men’s Winter Championship competitions.

CLUB OF THE YEAR

Ymca - Craig Herbert

YMCA

For the first time since the formation of Geelong United Basketball, YMCA has claimed the GUB Club of the Year title.

The winner is determined by allocating points for wins in Geelong United Basketball’s Winter Championship divisions.

Ten points are allocated for each win in Senior Men’s and Women’s Championship and six points in underage competition.

If a club has more than one team in a Championship division, the wins from the highest-ranked team are used to calculate the final tally.

RL SIGNS WOMEN’S WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP

Pivot City - Eve Braslis

MVP – EVE BRASLIS (PIVOT CITY)

Nine regular-season appearances have been enough for Pivot City star Eve Braslis to take out her first Geelong United Basketball Women’s Winter Championship MVP award. Braslis averaged 25.8 points per game, including a season-high 41 points in the Round 3 win over CC Eagles. She also scored 14 points in the second semi-final win over Sharks. However, Braslis missed the grand final loss to Wildcats after departing for Iceland, where she is playing with Grindavik.

RL SIGNS MEN’S WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP

Pivot City - Max Kos

MVP – MAX KOS (PIVOT CITY)

The Men’s Winter Championship season’s leading scorer, Max Kos, tallied 431 regular season points at an average of 26.9. The 24-year-old started the season with a bang, torching Tigers for 40 points in Round 1. It was one of three occasions Kos hit 40, with a 48-point effort against South Geelong Kings his best outing of the season. After a subdued performance in the semi-final win over Lara Giants, Kos was back to his best with 27 points in the grand final win over CC Eagles.
