By-laws and Operations updates

As we prepare for the 2023-24 Community Competition Season, Geelong United Basketball has updated its Operations Manual and Competition By-laws.

Important adjustments include;

  • Clarification of ruling covering fill-ins for club and social teams.
  • Changed the penalty for club teams being out of uniform from 5 (five) points per item to 2 (two) points per item
  • Added that all clubs and social teams must have paid any invoices prior to being able to enter into the competition.
  • Added in the new fee structure.

ADJUSTMENTS TO BY-LAWS

4.1 – Altered – “Only two nominated club officials” adjusted to “any nominated club official”.

7.1 –  Updated – Clearer language.

8.8 – Added – “Players are allowed to fill in for other teams in that team is in a higher or equal grade within the same age group or in a higher age group”.

8.9 – Added – “A fill-in player can be described as someone who participated with a team but will not exceed the number of games needed to qualify for finals”.

8.10 – Added – “Any fill-in player must have paid their player registration prior to taking the court.

8.11 – Added – “Club teams are allowed to use a fill-in player if they are from the same club and the team is from an equal or lower division in their age group, or from a lower age group

8.12 – Added – “Social teams are allowed to use a fill-in player if they play on another night of competition or play in a lower or equal division on their night of competition.

9.1 – Updated–  Clearer language

10.3 – Altered – Penalty points adjusted from 5 (five) to 2 (two) points per indiscretion

12.1.3 – Added – “This will be listed on PlayHQ as disqualified.”

14.1.1 – Altered – The title of the perpetual trophy has changed to ‘Club of the Year’.

 

ADJUSTMENTS TO OPERATIONS MANUAL

Team Entries

  • Added – “Clubs will be able to enter teams into the season once they have ensured that all invoices are paid.”
  • Removed – outdated processes and terminology
  • Added – “Social teams will be able to enter teams into the season once they have ensured that all invoices are paid.”

Grading 

  • Clarified – “Each season, GUB will nominate up to a maximum of 6 (six) rounds for grading. A relegation period will immediately follow for a maximum of 2 (two) weeks. GUB will schedule grading meetings in advance. During the grading period, fixtures will be released round-by-round. Clubs will be permitted to withdraw and move teams in consultation with GUB during this period. During the relegation period, fixtures will be released for the entire phase, where the movement of teams will be permitted following the nominated period. Clubs will be invited to attend a grading meeting, which will be held following the final round of the grading period. During this meeting, clubs will be able to provide feedback. GUB reserves the right to grade teams as it deems appropriate. Factors include but are not limited to; the number of entries in a division; the number of byes created on a given competition day; the relative strength of teams; the number of teams that one club has in a division; and the past performance of a team in a division. Clubs and social teams will have a right to appeal, particularly if the change of grade results in a change of day and/or night of play. All appeals must be made in writing.”
  • Added: Post grading ladders – “Any division that has had a team moved in/out of the grade will have their ladder reset at the end of the grading to 0 (zero) points. If a division is unaffected by re-graded teams, their ladder will remain as is.”
  • Clarified: Allocation of points for teams when re-graded- “If a team is re-graded following the grading period, the games already played will become 20-20 draws” \

Junior Development Rules 

  • Clarified – Mercy Rule: “When a team reaches a 20-point lead, coaches MUST instruct their players to move beyond their defensive three-point line before they commence playing defence. Please note for under-16 and under-18, there are no restrictions on defence with the exception that if a team has a 30-point or more lead, it is not permitted to extend its defence beyond half-court.”
