Hoodie finds a home in Brisbane

Sharpshooter Gabe Hadley has become the latest Hoop City Geelong United Supercat to earn a deal in an Australian national league after signing with NBL club Brisbane Bullets for the 2023-24 season.

Hadley, who averaged 24.7 points per game to finish second in scoring in NBL1 South at the end of the 2023 regular season, will link up with former Geelong United coach Justin Schueller in the Queensland capital.

He joins Geelong United women’s star Monica Okoye in taking a summer contract after the Japanese National Team member signed with WNBL club University of Canberra Capitals.

“I’m super pumped to have signed with the Bullets,” Hadley, who finished the season with a season-high 43 points in Saturday night’s win over Keilor, said.

“Justin has coached me for a long time now, so it’s nice to go into a system that I already know and, hopefully, he can trust me in.

“NBL24 is going to be my first NBL season, so I’m looking forward to that the most!

“I can’t wait to be around like-minded players. as well as being able to get in the gym with DMack (assistant coach Darryl McDonald) and work on my game.”

Hadley averaged 23.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 38.5 per cent from the three-point line.

Gabe is a product of hard work and grinding his craft in the NBL1, and it’s great that he gets this opportunity with us, Schueller said.

“When rounding out our roster, we knew we needed to add shooting to our list, and that’s exactly what he will bring to our squad.”

“I’ve known Gabe a very long time and coached him on multiple teams and levels.

“He is someone that is dependable, competes every day and wants to get better – exactly the type of guy we want to round out our list.
