Geelong United Basketball Men’s Championship Wrap | Round 11

Pivot City has taken a stranglehold on top spot on the Geelong United Basketball Winter Championship men’s ladder after seeing off a spirited challenge from winless Tigers at AWA Alliance Bank Stadium on Tuesday night.

On the back of 40 points from competition-leading scorer Max Kos, Pivot was able to claim victory, 100-81, to remain unbeaten after 11 rounds.

Marach Marach contributed 15 points, with Aaron Ruiz and Cohen Blythe each adding 12 points to Pivot’s tally.

Riley Prendergast was again impressive for Tigers as he finished with 18 points. Josh Hasell (13 points) and Ethan Hickey (12) also kept Tigers competitive.

A standout performance from the experienced Michael Rebula was the highlight as Vytis put a dent in the top-two hopes of Wildcats with a 90-83 victory at Geelong Arena.

Rebula scored 31 points as the Knights used a 23-8 first quarter as the foundation for their third win.

Yusuf Qaafow (21 points) was again crucial for Vytis, with Romas Liebich and James Osborne adding 17 points.

An outside shooting display from Phil Renteria got Wildcats back into the contest after their slow start.

He knocked down six three-pointers in his 23 points to lead his team’s scoring.

Kale Wells (22 points) and Tom Henkel (18) also kept the scoreboard ticking.

GUB WOMEN’S WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP | ROUND 11

Nathan Gronbeck exploded for a season-high 39 points as Try Boys outlasted Sharks for an 82-67 victory at AWA.

Leading by five points at three-quarter time, the Bears outscored Sharks 25-15 in the final period.

Gronbeck connected on six three-point attempts in his tally, which bettered his 35 points against CC Eagles in Round 6.

Seb Thomason (19 points) and Nic Hough (12) ensured solid support for Gronbeck.

Elvis Haliovic paced Sharks’ scoring with 14 points, while Malik Davis and Mason McKenzie contributed 12 points apiece.

Big man Liam Mc Inerney top scored with 25 points as CC Eagles moved back into the top four with a 68-58 victory over Surfcoasters at AWA.

Jye Boyle (18 points) and Jamieson Hultgren (12) also made handy contributions for the Eagles.

Clancy Whelan (22 points) and Ethan Nicholls (15) battled hard for anunderstaffedd Surfcoasters.

Lara moved to second on the ladder courtesy of a forfeit from YMCA.
