State honour for Geelong United talent

Geelong United Basketball (GUB) is proud to announce Hugh Buckby has been named in the Victoria Country Boys team to compete at the Under-16 National Championships in July.

Buckby, who plays in the GUB domestic competition with YMCA, earned a spot on the plane to Perth for the annual championships, which will be played in Warwick from July 2-9.

He was selected after impressing at the Australian Junior Country Basketball Cup in Albury during January.

Narrowly missing the final team but securing a spot as an emergency is Fletcher Pulleine (Lara Giants).

It is a similar story for Ayisha Balogun (Wildcats) and Willow Smith (Pivot City), who have been named among the seven emergencies for the Girls team.

Jo Bowie, who coaches the Geelong United under-18 girls Victorian Championship team, was previously announced as an assistant coach of the Girls team.
