BigV VYC Coaches Weekend Rundown – Saturday June 20

In the lead up to every BigV home game of the 2026 season, we’ll be checking in with the coaches to see how everything is shaping up for the game.

How are we expected to perform? Who should we be looking out for to fill the stat sheet? What are the keys to a big win?

It’s all answered here with the Coaches Weekend Rundown!

BigV VYC Women: Head Coach, Simon Nicholson

What were your takeaways from your previous game, and who were your standout performers?

Really happy with the adjustments we made in the 2nd half of last weeks game, and really happy with our overall balanced scoring. It was great to see 4 of our 8 players recored double digits.

How has the teams preparation been in the lead up to the game?

A really solid week at training. It will be great to welcome back Ameir, Kenzi and Aleks into our Y/L group without athe NBL1 clash this week.

What are some other key areas you’ll be looking to control in the game?

We’ll really be looking to be disruptive in the full court. Melbourne have a well-structured and disciplined half-court team, so we will be looking to be aggressive in the full court and speed them up to not allow it to be a half court grind.

What’s your final message for the fans?

Really exciting game for us with our 2 way players coming back in. Our younger players are really starting to find their feet at a youth league level and growing with confidence game by game, so come out and see what they bring to the court.

BigV VYC Men: Head Coach, Luke Beard

What were your takeaways from your previous game, and who were your standout performers?

We’re sticking together as one and focusing on what we can control. We continue to get great output from the entire roster.

How has the teams preparation been in the lead up to the game?

We have done a lot of reflecting this week and identified some key areas we want to improve in, and will be looking to hold ourselves to those standards.

What are some of the key matchups for the game?

We match up like for like with Melbourne, so it will be more about executing our game plan and disrupting theirs.

What are some other key areas you’ll be looking to control in the game?

Defensive end of the court will be our focus, really locking in and making every possession hard for our opponenets.

What’s your final message for the fans?

Come down and support us, as the curtain raiser to what should be a great day of basketball.
