VJBL Weekly Wrap – 15/5/26
Each week we’ll be selecting VJBL teams to be a part of our weekly wrap!
With round 7 of the 2026 season now in the books, check out all the latest from each of this week’s selected teams below:
U12 Girls 2: W 39-28
The GUB U12-2 Girls faced off against Whittlesea 2 at home at Geelong Arena in what was shaping up to be a huge clash between 1st and 2nd on the ladder.
The girls came into the game focused and determined, fully aware it would be a hard-fought contest at the midway point of the season. From the opening tip-off, our intensity and pace immediately set the tone. Despite Whittlesea holding a significant height advantage, our girls proved far too skilful, quick, and agile across the court.
It was a fantastic all-round team performance, highlighted by top-notch defence and relentless pressure from start to finish. Our passing game and defensive pressure were second to none, not allowing the opposition any time or space to settle into the game. The girls rattled Whittlesea early and maintained control throughout with their fast-paced style of play.
Most pleasing of all was the humility and composure the team showed throughout the match while still producing the result required.
A very proud effort from the entire group, with the girls securing a strong 39–28 win and now sitting proudly on top of the division at the midway point of the season.
U14 Boys 2: L 45-70
Tough outing for the boys tonight however very proud of them all especially how they stayed in the game and gave it their best right through to the end.
Up against a well trained and skilled Keilor team, with a high tempo and good trans O, which caused us some challenge and something to work on at training.
U14 Boys 4: W 60-35
Our squad travelled down to MSAC for our clash with the Tigers. Pregame we spoke about two or three key areas we wanted to focus on during the contest. The boys seemed locked in and ready to go, much better than we have been recently.
The next 40 minutes were some of the best basketball the squad has played so far. Each of the boys contributed at both ends of the floor, it was great to watch and I hope the boys understand they can do anything if they do it together. Trusting each other and being predictable will take us a long way on our journey together.
Gregory Ang top scored with 22 points whilst also snatching 4 steals. William Bogemann had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Micah Barrie had 8 points in a great all round game. Jaxon Whitten added 7 points and 5 rebounds, Joshua Staff grabbed 6 rebounds along with playing some of his best defence, locking down multiple opponents and Logan Kirwan provided us with 4 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. Seb, Rhys, Jarvis and Spencer all played their roles to perfection, all providing valuable minutes in a great team game for us.
U14 Boys 7: W 54-47
Having started the game very strong we had control of the game and a very handy lead going into the 4th. Sunbury kicked into gear with some extremely physical defence, 3 quick turnovers and the control was evidently in their favour.
The 4th finished 13-24 but we were still able to hang on to a 7 point victory
U16 Boys 9: BYE – Team Outing to Fore Fun Mini Golf
This week our boys had a BYE so we decided to arrange a Team Building night for the boys to bond and have a little fun away from the court environment.
We played mini golf and had dinner afterwards and it was great to see how they all interacted and let their guards down together.
Hopefully this translates into a closer knit team on the court.

U18 Boys 4: L 65-72
U18 Boys 4 put in a strong effort against undefeated ladder-leaders Bellarine, going down 72–65 in a high-quality contest.
In what was a heavily scouted match-up according to opposition sources, the 4’s continued to earn the respect of opposition clubs with the way they competed.
The boys moved the ball well with 16 assists on 24 made baskets and worked hard on the glass, grabbing 14 offensive rebounds. Carlyn Muaiava led the way with 17 points, while Zachariah Staff filled the stat sheet with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and a block. Patrick Cooper battled strongly inside with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Patrick Dunbabin also made a strong all-round contribution with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block.
A few turnovers, missed free throws, and shooting swings proved the difference, but it was a positive performance against the top side.
