VJBL Weekly Wrap – 24/4/26

Each week we’ll be selecting VJBL teams to be a part of our weekly wrap!

With round 2 of the 2026 season now in the books, check out all the latest from each of this week’s selected teams below:

U12 Girls 2: W 32-22

Geelong United delivered an impressive performance in their first game back after the school holidays, securing a strong 32–22 victory over Altona. From the opening whistle, the team set a quick pace and maintained high intensity throughout the match.

Our players showed excellent commitment to the game plan, applying strong defensive pressure and consistently challenging the opposition. This high-pressure defense led to multiple interception plays, which became a standout feature of the game and created valuable scoring opportunities.

Offensively, the team moved the ball quickly and effectively, demonstrating great teamwork and trust in one another. Passing was sharp, and players worked hard off the ball to create space and maintain momentum.

Energy and effort levels were outstanding across all quarters, with every player contributing to the team’s success. The combination of disciplined defense and confident attacking play proved too strong for Altona to overcome.

Overall, this was an excellent team performance and a fantastic way to return after the break.

U14 Boys 4: L 30-34

Our squad made the familiar trip down to Altona stadium with eight players for our round 5 clash against the undefeated Altona 4s in what can only be fairly described as a low scoring, tough, physical contest.

We came up short on the scoreboard at the end of four quarters, unfortunately for US, the scoreboard doesn’t always show the true result of a contest.

And that’s okay.

The scoreboard only tells the result of a game, not the path that takes you to the game, nor the path forward towards the next. We get to go back to working on implementing our style of play, improving and bettering ourselves as players and teammates. That’s the beauty of team sport, we always get another chance.

Big props to Logan Kirwan, Micah Barrie, Joshua Staff and William Bogemann who worked hard on the defensive end of the floor throughout the game. William also added 9 points, Jaxon Whitten earned his 7 and Joshua Staff added 6 points before being injured.

U18 Boys 4: W 58-55

Great effort from the boys to grind out a 58–55 win over Surfcoast U18 Boys 1.

After a lapse in the second quarter saw us go into half time down by 7, the boys showed great composure and fight to work their way back into the game.

We won the second half 33–23, with a really important third quarter helping shift the momentum.

Plenty still to tidy up, but a great example of staying together and finding a way.
