Each week we’ll be selecting VJBL teams to be a part of our weekly wrap!
With X-Over round 1 games completed, check out all the latest from each of this week’s selected teams below:
U12 Girls 2: L 21-28
The GUB U12 Girls 2 squad travelled to Altona for their crossover match against a determined Kilsyth side. From the opening tip-off, Kilsyth demonstrated strong focus and intensity, maintaining consistent pressure throughout the contest.
The girls faced challenges adjusting to the opposition’s quick ball movement and fast-paced style of play. Defensively, we struggled at times with our off-the-ball positioning, which allowed Kilsyth to create scoring opportunities. Despite periods of solid effort, we were unable to consistently maintain our usual structure and team cohesion.
Kilsyth’s height advantage across much of their lineup also proved difficult for some of our smaller players, particularly in contested situations. Rebounding was a key factor in the game, with second-chance opportunities going in the opposition’s favour. Combined with a high number of missed shots at the offensive end, this ultimately impacted our ability to build scoreboard pressure.
While it was not our strongest performance, the team continued to compete and showed determination right through to the final buzzer. After a hard-fought effort, the girls went down 28–21. It simply wasn’t our night, but the experience will provide valuable lessons as we continue to grow and develop as a team.
We look forward to regrouping at training and coming back stronger in the next round.
U14 Boys 4: W 38-32
Our squad made the familiar trip down to Altona for our crossover clash with the Casey 6’s. It was a tight struggle for the entire contest but we hit some big shots at important moments and managed to hold on to a 6 point victory at the final buzzer.
The game was played in the half court, both teams played extremely well defensively and that limited any transition opportunities. We stuck to our principles though and finally got some transition going in the last quarter to break away and leave with the W.
Gregory Ang finished with 11 points, William Bogemann added 7 and Joshua Staff and Logan Kirwan both scored 5.
The entire roster played extremely well defensively, it was what got us the result to be honest. Special mentions to Logan Kirwan, Joshua Staff and William Bogemann who played their roles extremely well and provided us with consistent play at both ends of the court.
U16 Boys 9: W 62-53
We asked the team for effort and intensity and we got it all game long.
A complete team effort, winning a tough game against a knox team with a height advantage. We are looking forward to next week and the season ahead.
Missing Max tonight but the team played on and we are all so proud of their performance.
