VJBL Weekly Wrap – 12/12/25

Each week we’ll be selecting VJBL teams to be a part of our weekly wrap!

With another big night of VJBL grading games completed, check out all the latest from each of this week’s selected teams below:

U12 Boys 2: W 47-45

We started the game slowly and found ourselves down by 20 at the halfway.

The boys really dug in deep and chipped away in the third.

We out scored them 18 to 7 in the last quarter to win.

U14 Boys 2: L 31-60

Unfortunately the 14 Boys 2s lost to a taller, stronger side who shot & rebounded very well on Friday night.

A tough game as is expected from a crossover game playing a team from a higher grade. Many good things to take away from the game and build on.

The coaches and boys will have good opportunities to work on the team development during the upcoming Eltham / Dandenong tournament and hopefully spring back ready to smash it out in the next Grading phase.

U14 Boys 4: W 50-40

We headed down the freeway for the third week in a row to play our crossover game against the Nunawading Spectres 6’s at Altona with eight players.

We got out of the blocks early and led by double figures quickly, playing tough defence that led to multiple transition baskets. We led by as many as 20 points throughout most of the second and third quarters, driven mainly by our defence and some great decision making on the offensive end.

We lost a player to injury early in the last quarter and that stretched our rotations. We tired but held on to win by 10 points in the end.

Top scorers were Gregory Ang and Jaxon Whitten with 12 each, Sebastian Fuller added 9 and Logan Kirwan finished with 7.

I lastly wanted to highlight the unselfish team play of Jarvis Wharton and Micah Barrie, whilst also acknowledging Joshua Staff’s performance on the defensive end of the floor, keep up the great work.

U14 Boys 6: L 29-34

Our boys played really well. We were in front twice but Collingwood ended up taking the win.

Nice early game.

U14 Boys 7: W 59-36

This week the boys hit the court running and didn’t stop until the final buzzer.

Our press was strong resulting in a lot of turnovers and easy points. Our shot selection was better and quick outlet passes on numerous occasions helped our team to an easy win.

It’s always nice to have an opposing coach ask how we lost our grading matches when we have such a good team.

Well done boys

U16 Girls: L 30-51

The team has really started playing as one.

Stacey had a game of a lifetime playing excellently all round getting a double-double of points and rebounds. Keeley played extremely well on defence as well as scoring an and 1. Izzy J kept playing despite hurting herself in a fall.

U16 Boys 5: W 49-43

The boys traveled down to Altona and had a good hit out against Southern Peninsula.

It was very competitive through out the game and they showed a lot of grit in defence which gave them a lot of reward. We worked well through their press and were able to get an advantage through good passing and early kick aheads.

The game was decided in triple overtime where we were able to to stick to strong defence which then resulted in a great win.

It was one of those games that really brings a team together!

U18 Boys 4: W 74-42

Geelong United U18 Boys 4 crossed over against Bulleen 3 at Altona.

After going down by 5 in the 1st quarter, Geelong came out strong in the 2nd with high pressure defence and gold medal scores. They controlled the tempo for the remainder of the game, coming away with a statement win of 32 points.

This will see them move up a grading pool after the break, well done boys!
