“Measured” performance from United

A spot in the NBL1 South top four is in sight for the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats women after splitting their Round 11 road-home double without Chantel Horvat.

Following a 94-59 loss to a Cassandra Brown-inspired Mt Gambier on Friday night, the Supercats quickly put that performance behind them with their biggest win and highest score of the season in seeing off Eltham 103-64.

“It was one of our more measured performances,” coach Matthew Paton said of the victory over the Wildcats.

“We were by no means flawless or executed to perfection.

“But, anytime we skinny up the rotation, the way that we did – and we had some players under the weather – we had to be considered and measured about the way we executed certain portions of the game; resting with time outs and things like that

“A lot of my timeouts today were purely rest-based tactical calls as opposed to needing corrections.”

With Brown’s 39 points, including a stunning 11 three-point makes at 73 per cent, Paton admits the Pioneers would have been a tough ask for any opponent.

“We’ll chalk that one up to that we’ll learn from it, but we won’t let it define us,” he said.

“Coming into today’s game, it was recovering from adversity, and we had the opportunity to define our season and how we rebound from a game like that and not let it have a hangover effect.
