‘D’ the key for United Men

After conceding more than 90 points or more for the sixth time in the first half of the season in last week’s loss to Bendigo, Hoop City Geelong United Supercats men’s coach Grant Wallace is keen to see a locked-in defensive effort this weekend.

United faces a stern test against Knox (3rd 9-4) at Geelong Arena on Saturday night before travelling to Keilor (15th 4-7) on Sunday.

However, Wallace won’t worry about the Thunder until 9pm Saturday after the battle with the Raiders is done.

Knox has four players averaging in double figures, led by American duo Wayne Stewart Jr. (21.3 ppg) and K.J Feagin (17.2ppg )

“They’re very good … deep,” Wallace said.

“NBL talent, imports, some great Australian talent; I’d suggest they’re one of the top three teams in the competition.

“We’ve got to play defence. We’ve got to get back to what we know and try to stick to our what our rules are defensively and do the team things.”

For Keilor, Zac Triplett (18.9ppg) leads their scoring, with Oliver Hayes-Brown (15.8ppg) and Robbie Heath (15.3ppg) also threats on offence

Triplett has a liking for the three-point shot, averaging nine attempts for just under three makes per game.
