GUB partners with Read the Play

Geelong United Basketball (GUB) is proud to announce it has become the first basketball program to partner with Read the Play.

Geelong-based, Read the Play delivers innovative programs in partnership with sporting clubs that empower young people to take control of their mental health and well-being.

Read the Play, established in 2006, has traditionally delivered its programs to local football and netball clubs and is keen to expand its reach to a range of sports.

GUB CEO Mark Neeld has welcomed the opportunity to work alongside Read the Play.

“With 45 Victorian Junior Basketball League teams and two Big V Youth League teams, we have close to 500 people under the age of 23 representing Geelong every week.

“Read the Play is highly regarded for the work it has done and continues to do around youth mental health, and we believe that can only benefit Geelong United Basketball.

“We are proud that Read the Play has chosen Geelong United Basketball to expand the reach of its program.”

Read the Play General Manager Michell Gerdtz says it’s an exciting partnership.

“We have been delivering our programs to football and netball clubs in the region for 17 years, and this partnership represents a significant shift in our strategic thinking,” she said.

“We want Read the Play to be available to all young people in Barwon region sporting clubs in the future, and our partnership with Geelong United Basketball is the first step towards reaching that goal.”

To celebrate the commencement of the partnership, Saturday night’s Hoop City Geelong United Supercats’ NBL1 game night against Knox Raiders has been designated as Read the Play Round.

$1 from every ticket sold will be donated to Read the Play to assist in delivering their essential message to the region’s young people.
