Consistency key for Youth League Women

Navexa Geelong United Youth League Women’s coach Jason Bannerman has called for more in-game consistency from his team as it looks to stay in touch with the Big V Youth League 1 top six.

United faces last-placed Warrandyte at Warrandyte Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon, with a win keeping it in touch with sixth spot as the season reaches its halfway point.

“We have shown in little glimpses what can be achieved when we get it right,” Bannerman said.

“We need to be a lot more consistent; play the full ten minutes a quarter, reduce our turnovers by looking after the ball, play good, hard, honest defence, and put the ball in the hole.”

Bannerman says despite the Venom occupying 12th spot, they’ll be no pushover on their floor.

“Keeping a positive mindset for the whole game, removing lapses in concentration, and good decision-making will be a huge key to pushing for that win,” he said.

For the Navexa Geelong United Youth League Men, a chance to climb into second spot goes on the line when it meets second-placed Sherbrooke at Upwey High School.

The Suns sit one spot ahead of the 7-3 United with an 8-3 record.

“We’re again looking forward to testing ourselves against a team sitting above us on the ladder,” coach Luke Beard.

“The team knows if we play to our structures and bring the energy we did last week, we are more than capable.

“Offensively, we will continue to push and then look to disrupt on defence with our intensity and physicality.”

Jack Moran, who scored 26 points in last week’s shootout win over Wyndham, will again be available, as will Jack Terrill and Jay Posterino after suiting up at NBL1 level on Saturday night.
