A chance to consolidate

Opportunity knocks for the Hoop City Geelong United Supercats Women when they tackle the Tasmania road double this weekend.

Ahead of the ledger when it comes to wins and losses and inside the top-eight for the first time this season, United can consolidate its position if it can snare wins over Hobart and Launceston.

Matthew Paton’s roster faces the Chargers tomorrow (Friday) night before heading north to take on the Tornadoes on Saturday evening.

Hobart and Launceston sit 15th and 13th on the ladder, respectively, holding 3-5 win-loss records.

“Coming off a tough but successful weekend sweep, the team is keen to try and maintain that momentum during what is always a very challenging road trip to Tasmania,” Paton said.

“Both of our opponents this weekend are only one win below us and boast the same record, so they are playing good basketball, and neither can be taken lightly.

“Both teams present very different challenges, so we will have to play at our versatile best to come home with the same success as last weekend.”

The weekend will provide early-season additions Chantal Horvat and Agnieszka Skobel with another chance to integrate into the program.

Horvat’s first weekend since returning home from Poland produced two impressive performances.

Off the bench against Mt Gambier and Diamond Valley, she averaged 20 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3,5 assists.

Skobel also produced solid numbers of 7.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
